The basics on American Democracy
Federalism- This is the sharing of powers between the federal and state governments. Otherwise this is were the Federal and state government share power. One example, basically the constitution gave power to the federal government like regulating trade, control currency. But it also gave the state power as well like establishing schools and local governments.

Separation of Power- The Constitution divides government power and this is called separation of powers(no brainer)!!!
The power is separated into three branches legislative, executive, and judicial branches.

Checks and Balances- This is a system that farmer built so that not one could gain to much power. this basically says that the three branches of government have a role that limits the other so no branch can dominate government. One example applies to the supreme court. well the president appoints supreme court justice, so the senate must approve the appointments. this is a long list of thing so that one person will not be barking orders.

Popular Sovereignty- This is a THEORY that government is subjected to the people. So its basically our authority!!! One example is in the  Constitution it says we the people referring to that we do have power as citizens.

Majority RULES- This mean if there five people in a room and they are voting on who will run the ice-cream shop between Bob and Bill. Say that four out of the five vote for Bill, majority rules and he runs the ice cream shop.
